Kai Havertz “dreams of playing in the Premier League” as transfer race hots up

Chelsea target Kai Havertz is destined for the Premier League, according to a team-mate.

Bayer Leverkusen’s left-back Wendell has revealed Havertz – the side’s playmaker, who has been linked with Chelsea, as well as Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid – desperately wants to test his mettle in English football.

Wendell said: “Havertz dreams of playing in the Premier League. If he goes there, he will learn a lot.

“That is his ambition and he will be a success if he decides to leave for England,” his current colleague told Spanish newspaper El Sol.

In another boost for the clubs eyeing his signature, Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller says the club have an agreement with Havertz which allows him to leave at the end of the current season so long as certain conditions are met.

Kai Havertz has scored 15 times for Bayer Leverkusen this campaign

“We have an agreement – if it fits, he can go this summer. As of now, he is a player of ours. We have our ideas. We know what he can do.”

“I personally hope he stays one more year. Of course, you can’t force anyone. Havertz knows what he owes to his colleagues, the fans and the club,” Voller told German newspaper Bild.

Havertz has scored 15 times for Leverkusen this season and is set to start in the German Cup final against Bayern on Saturday.

But speculation over his future has increased after Leverkusen failed to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.

Wendell, who has played alongside Havertz since the 21-year-old broke into the first team in 2016, said he has all the qualities that mean he could make waves in the Premier League.

“He is a complete player. You can play him as a No.9 or No.10, a little further back, and he knows exactly what to do,” Wendell said.

“He has knows exactly what the manager wants of him. He can score with both feet, he’s strong in the air, he’s got great technique.”
