Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will not be standing still in the transfer market this summer, despite the Reds securing a first league title in 30 years.
The German coach will be targeting improvements across his squad ahead of the 2020/21 campaign as he looks for cover in key areas in their title defence.
Klopp was frustrated in his efforts to sign Timo Werner last month, but he will be hopeful of securing other big-name targets.
We take a look at the latest names being linked with a summer move to Anfield.
Bayern Munich await Thiago’s future decision
Bayern Munich boss Hans-Dieter Flick has confirmed the club are still waiting on an update from Liverpool target Thiago Alcantara over his future in Bavaria.
The Spanish international has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga giants this summer, with his contract set to expire at the end of next season.
Liverpool are reportedly leading the chase to sign the midfielder in the coming weeks, but Flick stated no decision has been made at this stage on Thiago or his teammate David Alaba
“Both of them know what I think of them. I will give them time to think and support them as a coach,” he said, as quoted by German outlet DW, reported via Goal.com.
“Ultimately the player will decide what is best, and I will respect that.”
If Thiago does opt to leave Bayern this summer, he could be available for around £45million, with the German club eager to avoid losing him for free in 2021.
The 29-year-old has played a central role in Bayern’s domestic dominance in recent years, making more than 200 club appearances and winning seven Bundesliga titles.
Liverpool trailing Chelsea in Havertz race
Liverpool have dropped behind Chelsea in the battle to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz this summer, according to reports from the Daily Express.
Jurgen Klopp has been linked with the 21-year-old attacker after he netted 17 goals and provided nine assists for Peter Bosz’s side in 2019/20.
However, the new Premier League champions are not the only English club interested in the German international, and the report states the potential for a greater first-team role at Stamford Bridge has given Frank Lampard’s side an edge.
The Blues have already beaten Liverpool to the signing of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, and Lampard reportedly wants to unleash a front three of Werner, Havertz and Hakim Ziyech on the Premier League next season.
Brazilian international Jorginho could be the player sold in order to fund a £72m move for Havertz, with the former Napoli man linked with a return to Italy after falling out of favour following the Premier League restart.
Hull want Herbie Kane back in 2020/21
Championship side Hull City want to bring Liverpool midfielder Herbie Kane back to the club next season – despite his recent injury problems.
Kane returned to Liverpool after suffering a hamstring tear which ended his season in Hull’s 2-1 win at Middlesbrough last week.
The England U17 international has been a key player for Grant McCann’s side after joining on a six-month loan deal in January.
McCann has since confirmed he is hopeful of securing a deal to have Kane on board for the 2020/21 campaign, either on loan or permanently.
“We are gutted for Herbie, as he’s had no luck with injuries since he came here,” he said, according to quotes from the Evening Standard.
“We’d love to have him back here next season, as he brings us everything we need in that type of player. We would love to keep him.”
Kane is likely to be available for another loan away from Anfield next season, after failing to break into Jurgen Klopp’s first team in 2019/20, but a permanent deal will depend on the German’s future plans for the 21-year-old.
