Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed that he calls teammate Bukayo Saka “Little Chilli” – because of the youngster’s energetic style of play.
Saka only truly broke through in the first-team earlier this season but has already become arguably one of the Gunners’ most important players.
The 18-year-old has created ten assists in all competitions and is one of the team’s most potent attacking threats on the wing.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham, Aubameyang explained his nickname for Saka.
“I call him this (Little Chilli) but in French so it is ‘Petit Piment'”, Aubameyang told Sky Sports . “It’s because he is like a little chilli, so much energy, so much power and is quite small so it’s funny.”
Aubameyang also heaped praise upon Saka for the effect he has had on the team this season, and predicts a big future for the player.
“Oh for sure, he is one of the best, for sure,” he continued. “What I like about him is he is always listening to advice from us the experienced players.
“I really like it and he is really humble, he always wants to go forwards and learn more and try to improve his game so definitely he is one of the best.
“Of course, I think he’s 18 so he has a lot of time, but as I said to him the most important thing is to enjoy, because at this age to be at this club is really special and he just has to continue like this, to keep improving and I am sure he will go straight to the top.”
Saka is expected to start in the game against Spurs, with the Gunners looking to win the first ever north London derby to be played at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and continue their challenge to finish in a Europa League qualification spot.
